High Point usa Launches SOBE Collection
October 20, 2009 by streamh20
High Point usa continues to redefine luxury at a price that you can afford, with the unveiling of their SOBE Collection. Contemporary design is becoming increasingly popular as people look to simplify. The SOBE Collection offers a weightless character and clean, sleek lines that make this contempoary design so unique.
The SOBE Collection is made from furniture grade maple plywood and European laminate.
- Furniture grade maple plywood vs particle board and medium density fiberboard (mdf):
Furniture grade maple plywood is impervious to moisture/humidity. (FYI this is what we use on our vanities with curvatures like the South Beach). Particle board and medium density fiberboard absorb moisture causing it to expand and contract.
- Laminate vs Veneer:
Phenolic laminates are made by impregnating one or more layers of base material with phenolic resin and laminating the resin saturated base material under heat and pressure. The resin fully polymerizes (cures) during this process. The function of the resin is to act as a glue to hold the fiber together and protect the fiber from mechanical and environmental damage. Veneers are thin slices of wood, usually thinner than 3 mm, which are simply glued onto core panels, typically particleboard or medium density fiberboard. Veneers are like wallpaper, meaning they peel very easily.
- Acclimation:
All laminates and plywood are acclimated, meaning that the wood is exposed to the influence of a prescribed atmosphere for a period of time. This allows the wood laminate, and the substrate (plywood) to equalize in moisture, content, and temperature.
- Drawers: The Ocean Drive uses Tandem box Blum drawers and glides.
- Hinges: The Collins and Lincoln Road use Blum soft close hinges.
- MADE IN THE USA!
